A Scholarship Dream in Busan
In a single-parent household in Busan, high-school student Minjun and his mother depended on each other. His mother was in poor health and could only just scrape by on odd jobs to cover household costs and medical bills.
Minjun had been sensible from a young age, hardworking and excellent in his studies. Yet as his final year of high school neared, the cost of university weighed heavily on him, and he repeatedly considered giving up further study to work after graduation.
Through long-term cooperation with local high schools, the Foundation's education-aid program learned of Minjun's situation. After a home visit and assessment, the project team offered all-round support, covering all four years of university tuition and arranging academic tutoring and emotional support.
The project also organized career-planning talks, inviting mentors from medicine, education, social work, and other fields to share their journeys and help students see the road ahead.
With this timely support, Minjun rekindled hope for the future. He was admitted to the university of his choice and chose to major in social welfare, hoping to become the kind of professional who holds an umbrella for others caught in hardship.
